2018

The Year of the Dog. And a year of big personal changes.

After living in Amsterdam for a long, long time, I am moving out of the city. I am going to rent an appartment in Bussum, half an hour from Amsterdam. It is a small apartment, but it is flooded with light, right in the heart of the village and next […]

New Home

Another hike through the Kennemerduinen close to Haarlem. Starting in Santpoort Noord through the dunes to the beach, over the beach to Bloemendaal aan Zee, then through the dunes to Overveen. Nice walk if you are travelling by train. But please pick a quiet day if you prefer a quiet […]

Going Around Bloomingdale

The Vechtdal (River Vecht Valley) in Overijssel is a very popular destination for campers and bikers. It is a very diverse environment with excellent biking paths. However, for hikers looking for peace and quiet, and want to see things people on wheels can’t, this is not entirely the place…

Another two day hike. The first day over the Mookerheide and around the St. Jansberg to Groesbeek. Second day from Groesbeek over the Devil’s Mountain and through the Philosopher’s Valley to Nijmegen.

Cuijk – Groesbeek – Nijmegen

Three very different walks; high sandy grounds from Roermond to Brüggen through the moors of Meinweg, the lakes in the Schwalm valley around Brüggen and a walk back to the Netherlands along the Schwalm and over the lower sandy grounds of the Schwalm moors.

€100 Schnitzel

Just 30 minutes by train from Amsterdam you can make nice walks through the Kennemerduinen. Allthough next to Haarlem and Amsterdam, you won’t meet many people on your way. But you will see lot’s of woodpeckers and jays! Oh, and some ‘wild’ horses… This walk is between the NS stations […]

Dunes walk

In the south of the Netherlands the idyllic valley of the River Geul is one of the most fantastic places for a nice walk. See for yourself…

Pentecost in Valkenburg

The oldest city of the Netherlands, but unfortunately bombed by the allied forces in 1944. They finished the destruction of the city already started by demolishing the old castle and the magnificent city walls. Why does man always need to destroy?
